2020 Summer Sunset Festival Cancelled
Lake in the Hills, IL – The Village of Lake in the Hills announces with great disappointment that the annual Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Festival, scheduled to take place September 4-6, 2020 at Sunset Park, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s event would have marked the festival’s 20th anniversary.
The decision to cancel the festival came after careful consideration of the safety of attendees, volunteers, and entertainers and of the “Restore Illinois” guidelines issued by the State of Illinois.
The Summer Sunset Festival committee postponed the decision to cancel for as long as reasonably possible in order to allow for the chance that the state would adjust its guidelines or the phase timetable. However, the capacity allowances required to hold a festival will not be in place until Phase 5 of the state’s plan.
“We are of course very disappointed to have to cancel. This is an event we all take great prid Save e in and love to put on for our residents,” said Trustee Ray Bogdanowski, the festival’s chairperson. “As much as we have looked forward to this festival, especially on an anniversary year, we have to keep the safety and well-being of our community as the top priority.”
Typically, the festival takes place over Labor Day weekend each year and is free to attend. The Summer Sunset Festival Committee looks forward to the return of the event in 2021.
